24-Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)
Hypertension doesn’t usually have early warning signs or symptoms until your blood pressure has reached a critical stage. Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) requires you to wear a small device that monitors your blood pressure over the course of 24-hours. The device measures and records your blood pressure at regular intervals (typically every 15-30 minutes). A record of your blood pressure over a set period of time provides a more reliable measurement than one-off readings, as well as vital information about your blood pressure and potential hypertension.About 24-Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
Who is this test for?
Anyone with persistently raised blood pressure readings, or readings that are dramatically different at each measurement, should be considered for ABPM. ABPM by LifeLabs® is also suitable for individuals who have a family history of hypertension, have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, or have other risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
What is this test used for?
Recording your blood pressure over a set period of time with ABPM can provide a more reliable measurement than one single reading. The information obtained from ABPM can help your doctor when:
- They are unable to obtain an accurate blood pressure reading in their office (e.g. fluctuating reading, episodic or white-coat hypertension)
- They suspect drug-resistant hypertension
- You have hypotensive symptoms with antihypertensive therapy
- You are exhibiting autonomic dysfunction
